When Ellen Degeneres Cried With Barack Obama At The White House

During the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by US President Barack Obama to all heroes in real life celebrating their contribution to change the world, the two shared a beautiful moment together. DeGeneres received the medal of honour for her fight to secure equal rights for the LGBT community and same-sex marriage. It is almost 20 years since the famous stand-up comedian and actress came out as a lesbian and ever since has played a pivotal role in changing the scenarios in the US.

 

Barack Obama, while awarding her with the prestigious award, said, “It’s easy to forget now, when we’ve come so far, where now marriage is equal under the law, just how much courage was required for Ellen to come out on the most public of stages almost 20 years ago.” POTUS then cracked a joke in DeGeneres’ words and admitted he felt choked – and she was not different.
