Tinseltown Sweethearts: Ready to Tie the Knot?

Shanel Khaliq Darpan, 09 Jun, 2014
  • Tinseltown Sweethearts: Ready to Tie the Knot?
Each one of us girls’ dreams of a fairytale wedding with the perfect dress, splendid décor and of course, our Prince Charming. Let’s admit it! A lot of this fantasizing can undoubtedly be credited to watching hundreds of Bollywood movies since our childhood.

Whether it was after watching the Shah Rukh-Kajol duo in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge or whether it was Ranbir-Deepika in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (for the more younger lot), we have all dreamt of being smitten in love only to find ourselves ending up with the man of our dreams in a big fat desi wedding after overcoming many trials and tribulations.

But what does 2014 look like for real couples in Bollywood? Are many of those much talked about love stories going to end up coming true or will we see yet another heartbreak. There is much speculation and gossip around tinseltown, however much remains to be unfolded. If it ends up well it could be the most glamorous and extravagant affair of 2014, matching the likes of Abhishek-Aishwarya or Saif-Kareena.

Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha
All eyes were set on Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha as they announced that their wedding would take place earlier this year. Invitations were sent out; preparations were being made but only to end in delay. Dia’s official spokesperson told the media that Sangha had to deal with health issues in his close family, which caused the delay.

But gossipers are saying something else! Some circles say the couple is having differences. Well who knows, Dia is known to be flamboyant and as she says has “had her share of failed relationships.” Whether it was actors Kunal Kapoor, Arshad Warsi or Director Apoorva Lakhia, Dia Mirza’s link ups have always been in the news. Nevertheless she is now with Sahil Sangha, which is a personal as well as professional unison as the two are running a production company together. Let’s hope that December 2014 sees wedding bells for Dia Mirza.

Bipasha Basu and Harman Baweja
The dusky beauty is all serious about her boyfriend and speculations suggest that the two are planning their wedding this year. Sources are also suggesting that the parents of the two have already met and things seem to be flowing smoothly. It was late December 2012 when the two were spotted together for the first time when Bipasha stepped out of Baweja’s car at a birthday party. Since then the two have been seen together numerous times and the news was confirmed when Baweja later admitted to the media that he was seeing Basu. Ideally this would be a good step and the couple has said that everything will be officially announced after the release of their movie “Dishkiyaoon.” Basu was previously with John Abraham for nine years and now as John has also tied the knot with girlfriend Priya Runchal, its time Basu does so too!

Aftab Shivdasani and Nin Dusanj
Gossip about this wedding has been in the news since 2012 now. Aftab has been seeing the British-born Nin Sunaj for quite some time now and admitted that this time love is for real. Some circles are also confirming that Nin has relocated to India. Now that 2014 is here and the couple did plan their wedding for this year, we can only wait and see when this grand affair will take place and wish them the best of luck. Aftab’s recent success in the comedy flick “Grand Masti” is surely visible on his face, but is that only due to professional success or also due to personal happenings, no one knows for sure!

AND THEY DID IT!

Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra
After a long courtship, Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra finally decided to come out of the closet and announced that they were getting married in February at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. Rumors were in the air since July 2013 when Chopra’s mother had been looking for a “Shubh Mahurat” for her son’s wedding and Mukherjee too was spotted with a ring on her hand. Nevertheless the much-awaited February passed and the wedding did not materialize.

But to everyone’s surprise, Mukherjee and Chopra tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Italy surrounded by close family and friends in late April. This is Mukherjee’s first wedding and Chopra’s second wedding.

The award-winning actress spoke to reporters, “I would like to share the happiest day of my life with all my fans all over the world, whose love and blessings have been part of my journey all these years. I know that all my well-wishers, who have waited for this day will be really happy for me. It was a beautiful wedding in the Italian countryside with just a few of our close family and friends with us,” Mukerji, 36, said.

“I have always believed in fairy tales and with God’s grace my life has been exactly like one, and now as I enter the most important chapter of my life - the fairy tale continues,” she added.

Exclusive with Dia Mirza

Sahil proposed to Dia in New York, and we had the chance to talk with the Bollywood beauty to get exclusive details.

Q: Have you set a date?
A: We have not fixed a date as of yet, [however] around the release date of Bobby Jasoos we may make an announcement.

Q: Bridal outfit? A specific look you are going for?
A: My stylist Theya does my clothes; she puts my wardrobe together for me. There are a few designers I am deeply connected with and respect their craft and they are all special. As for a bridal look, I want it to be a balance between traditional and elegant. I do not want bling, nothing flashy at all. My jewellery will be an assortment of new and my mom’s.

Q: Venue or bridal theme in mind for your wedding?
A: We are exploring stuff and whether to have a theme or not will be determined by the location. It is going to be an intimate and private affair. It has to be a beautiful and enjoyable occasion and we don’t want to be stuck on the stage. However, I don’t disrespect the ones, who choose to have such a wedding. We want our guests to come and have fun.
