Vancouver Consulate Celebrates Indian I-Day

The 71st Independence Day of India was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm at the Consulate General of India, Vancouver on 15 August 2017 at 0930 hrs.

 

The event began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Consul General Abhilasha Joshi followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The Consul General read out the President’s address to the nation on the occasion.

 

The event was graced by the distinguished presence of Hon’ble Jinny Sims, Minister for Citizen Services of the Government of British Columbia (BC) and Mr. Raj Chauhan, MLA and Deputy Speaker of the BC Assembly.

 

A group of Ex-servicemen of Indian armed forces also added patriotic fervor to the event along with a large gathering of around more than 150 members of the Indian diaspora, Friends of India, office bearers of Indian Associations and ethnic Indian media.

 

The Consul General, in her brief remarks, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the new policies and flagship projects of the government of India like Namami Gange, Swachch Bharat, India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians, Make in India, etc. to connect the diaspora with the process of nation building.

 

The Consulate General of India, Vancouver wishes all the members of the diaspora A Happy Independence Day and thanks all those who participated in the event.
