Indian Independence Day In Vancouver

72nd Independence Day of India was celebrated with great fervour and patriotic zeal at the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on 15 Aug 2018. Consul & Head of Chancery Shri Jasbir Singh welcomed the guests. The tricolour was unfurled by the Consul General Mrs Abhilasha Joshi followed by singing of the National Anthem. 
 
Consul General then read out excerpts from the Hon’ble President’s address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day. In her remarks, she complimented all the diaspora members for their contribution to strengthening India-Canada ties. She also expressed thanks for receiving Independence Day greetings from Hon’ble John Horgan, Premier of British Columbia on the occasion. 
 
Hon’ble Jinny Sims, Minister for Citizen Services, Hon’ble Raj Chouhan, Dy Speaker, Honble Jagrup Brar, MLA and Mr Dave Hayer were some of the dignitaries present on the occasion. The members of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Association of BC, proudly wearing their medals, participated in the ceremony and saluted the national flag. More than 200 guests participated in the ceremony.
