Featuring stories of seven South Asian women in BC who are Elevating Boundaries and Redefining Success.

Darpan Magazine proudly presents its March-April cover story, featuring seven remarkable South Asian women who have pursued their dreams even when walking alone on the path or when they seemed difficult and distant to attain. These women have redefined success not only for themselves but also for the community. This feature serves as a precursor to the DARPAN Power Women of Influence gala, dedicated to celebrating women's achievements and inspiring others within the community.

In 2020, the magazine decided to spotlight South Asian women in British Columbia who discovered their purpose and voice, sharing their inspiring stories. Regardless of diverse professional backgrounds, these women exhibit resilience, hard work, and unwavering commitment to their life's calling. Get to know this year's achievers whose journeys have strengthened them and made them truly unstoppable.

In British Columbia, there are so many remarkable South Asian women who are leaders in their respective fields. Be it in politics, health, social work, business, or broadcasting – their contribution has been crucial for the growth and development of the province and BC’s South Asian community.

These brilliant women have strived to reach their goals; they have shattered the glass ceiling to turn their dreams into reality. They have not let anyone hold them back – and that is our message for young South Asian women and girls who have big dreams. Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back!

Dr.Shohini Ghose, CTO, Quantum Algorithms Institute Quantum Physicist

Dr.Ghose stands at the forefront of quantum research, holding the position of Chief Technology Officer at the Quantum Algorithms InstituteIn 2013, she established the Center for Women in Science (WinS) at Wilfrid Laurier University. As a hospitalist with clinical responsibilities at Peacearch Hospital, Dosanjh combines her medical expertise with a commitment to advancing women's health issues. Sofia Walia, Field Hockey Player U-18 National Team Coach Canada

 Starting at 5, when there were no girls' teams, Walia embraced every sport until 14, when she earned a spot in the senior national field hockey team, representing Canada. This marked the beginning of a remarkable career. At 17, Walia received multiple NCAA offers and secured a Full Ride scholarship at Rutgers University, playing Division 1 field hockey. Majoring in Public Health and minoring in Psychology and Education, she managed a full academic load while excelling in sports.
