Celebrating Womanhood: Maninder Dhaliwal

  • Celebrating Womanhood: Maninder Dhaliwal

Maninder Dhaliwal is the President & Co-Founder of Lions Gate International

What does being a woman mean to you?

Being a female is having the power of empathy and co-operation.

What has been your biggest achievement, personally and professionally, as a woman?

I have a few awards, and I have been on a few ‘achiever’ lists over the years. But as they say, yesterday’s home run doesn’t win today’s game. I am more interested in the future than the past.

Did you ever face a challenge simply because you were a woman?

I work at the intersection of technology and finance. Being underestimated is a constant experience. Only way to change minds is being very good at what you do.

What project are you working on right now?

I am the founding chair of TiE Angels Vancouver. Part of the not-for-profit Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), it is an investor forum that leverages TiE’s global network of over 60 global chapters, several TiE Angel groups including TiE Angels Silicon Valley and TiE Angels India, plus an international consortium of TiE-affiliated seed funds.

TiE Angels brings together promising early stage companies and exposes them to angel investors, serial entrepreneurs, high tech executives, and other professional investors. I am very proud to volunteer my time and expertise towards this invaluable resource for technology entrepreneurs and investors of BC and Canada, leading to building successful next generation tech companies and contributing to the Canadian economy.

What’s your advice for women who wish to follow your path?

Have big dreams; you will grow into them. Sometimes the best experience is the one you’re wholly unqualified for. Never limit yourself by someone else’s limited imagination.
