Why did you decide to immigrate to Canada?

We decided to immigrate to Canada to explore a different part of the world, experience a new culture, and enjoy the unpolluted natural environment. Living in such a vibrant and diverse country was incredibly appealing.

Which year did you migrate?

We moved in 2019, a year that marked a new beginning for our family in this beautiful country.

What were your first impressions of Canada?

Canada struck me as a beautiful and clean country, though it sometimes felt a bit secluded. However, the vast landscapes and friendly locals quickly made us feel more at home.

Where did you stay when you reached Canada? Hotel, relative or friends place?

We rented a place upon arrival rather than staying with relatives or friends. This allowed us to start putting down our roots right away.

What difficulties/challenges did you face when you and your family moved here?

Initially, we lived in a very old house and couldn't afford to pay higher rent. Finding a job was also a challenge; despite my ten years of previous work experience, it took nearly a year. This period tested our resilience and adaptability.

How long did it take to get used to the people, weather or the surroundings?

Adjusting to the surroundings was relatively quick since we lived close to downtown. The people were welcoming, and arriving in the summer helped us ease into the Canadian climate comfortably.

How was your experience getting a job here? Was it easy or troublesome?

Finding employment was tough; I started with volunteering, eventually leading to a contract position at Hudson Bay. Unfortunately, I was laid off within two weeks due to COVID-related downsizing, which was quite disheartening.

What do you like and dislike most about this country?

I love the friendliness of the people here and the strong work-life balance, contrasting with the lush green spaces and minimal pollution. However, the low population density makes it challenging to form close friendships, which can be particularly lonely during the long winters.

How do you see your future in Canada?

I see a promising future for us here in Canada. Despite the challenges, the opportunities for personal and professional growth are substantial, and I am optimistic about our family's prospects.

Biggest obstacle faced so far in Canada:

Juggling work, family life, and occasional homesickness has been challenging, especially without a local family support system. Adapting to a new country has tested our resilience and brought us closer as a family.

Advice for immigrants:

To all new immigrants, I recommend maintaining patience and resilience. Embrace volunteering and community involvement as ways to integrate and build connections. Prepare for challenges, but  seize the myriad opportunities this great country offers.

How has your overall journey in Canada been so far?

Our journey has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, but we have always moved forward. Considering the rising prices, securing a home just before COVID hit was a blessing. It's been a vibrant chapter of our lives filled with growth and learning.
