Google has apologised for an image of its android mascot urinating on an Apple logo that went viral on social media this week.
In a statement to the Washington Post, Google said the content was created by a user not the company.
"We are sorry for this inappropriate user-created content and we are working to remove it quickly," Google spokesperson Mara Harris was quoted as saying.
"We also learn from these issues and we are constantly improving how we detect, prevent and handle bad edits," Harris added.
The Android versus iPhone war took an ugly turn this week when an image of Bugdroid (the mascot of Android) urinating on the Apple logo was found in Google Maps, The Verge reported.
The image was located in Pakistan near Rawalpindi and was added by a user to Google Maps through Map Maker -- a feature that allows users to add content and additional information to Google Maps.
The image soon went viral on internet, with many netizens posting about it on the micro-blogging site Twitter and social networking site Facebook.
The image has since been removed from Maps by Google, but it is still not clear who created the image.
