Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg to visit India next week

Darpan News Desk IANS, 04 Oct, 2014 09:24 AM
Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg will be visiting India next week to attend a summit.

Zuckerberg will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to sources.

His visit comes three months (July, 2014) after the visit of Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of the social networking giant, to the country, which is the second biggest market for Facebook.

During her visit Sandberg met IT and Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and said: "Facebook has a very powerful presence in India, next only to US. There is enormous scope for expansion of Facebook, which is already a very popular platform in India. There is a need to work together in the field of education, in the field of health and other creative exposures."

She also met Modi during her visit.

Young billionaire Zuckerberg will be the third high profile honcho of a US-based tech firm, after Satya Nadella of Microsoft and Jeff Bezos of Amazon, to visit India in the last couple of weeks.

Zuckerberg will be here in the city to attend the two-day long Internet.org Summit (Oct 9-10) that aims to make Internet access affordable for people those who do not have it globally.
