WHL Roundup: Victoria edges Kamloops in OT 4-3

    VICTORIA - Joe Hicketts scored at 1:44 of overtime as the Victoria Royals came from behind to defeat the Kamloops Blazers 4-3 on Saturday in Western Hockey League play.

    Austin Carroll forced extra time for the Royals (1-3-0) with a goal at 19:18 of the third period while playing 6-on-5. Brandon Fushimi and Dante Hannoun also scored for Victoria.

    Cole Ully, Mike Winther and Nick Chyzowski supplied the scoring for the Blazers (2-1-1).

    Coleman Vollrath made 32 saves for the Royals while Cole Kehler turned aside 27-of-31 shots for Kamloops.

    Victoria went 2 for 6 on the power play while the Blazers scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

    WARRIORS 7 BLADES 1

    MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Brayden Point had a hat trick and Tanner Eberle added a pair of goals as the Warriors hammered Saskatoon.

    Jack Rodewald and Jayden Halbgewachs each had a goal and an assist for Moose Jaw (1-3-0) while Zach Sawchenko made 26 saves for the win.

    Ty Mappin scored the lone goal for the Blades (0-4-0). Nik Amundrud allowed five goals on 27 shots before giving way to Trevor Martin, who stopped 16-of-18 shots in 30:24 of relief.

    WHEAT KINGS 5 BRONCOS 2

    SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Jayce Hawryluk and John Quenneville each had a goal and two assists as Brandon toppled the Broncos.

    Kord Pankewicz, Tyler Coulter and Tim McGauley also scored for the Wheat Kings (4-0-0) as Jordan Papirny stopped 33 shots for the win.

    Brett Lernout and Jay Merkley scored for Swift Current (2-2-0) while Landon Bow turned away 29-of-33 shots in defeat.

    REBELS 7 ICE 1

    RED DEER, Alta. — Presten Kopeck scored twice and Conner Bleackley had a goal and two assists as the Rebels crushed Kootenay.

    Grayson Pawlenchuk, Meyer Nell, Wyatt Johnson and Scott Feser also scored for Red Deer (2-1-0) while Rylan Toth made 16 saves for the win.

    Kyle O'Connor scored for the Ice (1-2-0). Wyatt Hoflin started in net for Kootenay but was pulled after allowing five goals on 31 shots in 45:15 of action. Keelan Williams stopped 7-of-9 shots in relief.

    PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Rylee Zimmer scored on a penalty shot at 14:51 of the third period and Adam Brooks scored the winner less than two minutes later as Regina edged the Raiders.

    Patrick D'Amico and Colton Kroeker also scored for the Pats (2-2-0) while Daniel Wapple made 26 saves for the win.

    Craig Leverton, Jayden Hart and Jordan Tkatch supplied the offence for Prince Albert (2-1-0) as Nick McBride stopped 31 shots in a losing cause.

    MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Tristan Jarry turned away 36 shots as Edmonton slipped past the Tigers.

    Ben Carroll broke a 1-1 deadlock at 18:02 of the third period for the Oil Kings (3-0-0) while Blake Orban scored his club's other goal early in the third to erase Medicine Hat's 1-0 lead.

    Markus Eisenschmid scored for the Tigers (3-1-0) as Marek Langhamer kicked out 23 shots in defeat.

    ROCKETS 8 COUGARS 2

    PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Kelowna connected five times with the power play and once shorthanded and Jackson Whistle stopped 28 shots en route to defeating the Cougars.

    Riley Stadel and Rourke Chartier each scored twice for the Rockets (3-0-0), who went 5 for 9 on the power play, while Tyson Baillie and Nick Merkley had a goal and two assists apiece. Carter Rigby and Kris Schmidli also scored for Kelowna.

    Brad Morrison and David Soltes scored for Prince George (1-3-0). Tavin Grant only lasted one period in net for the Cougars after allowing five goals on 12 shots. Ty Edmonds stopped 16-of-19 shots in relief.

    SILVERTIPS 5 WINTERHAWKS 1

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Carson Stadnyk had two goals and an assist and Austin Lotz stopped 31 shots as Everett downed the Winterhawks.

    Graham Millar, Tyler Sandhu and Kohl Bauml also scored for the Silvertips (2-0-0).

    Chase De Leo scored the lone goal for Portland (0-4-0) while Brendan Burke made 33 saves in a losing cause.

    SPOKANE, Wash. — Dominic Zwerger scored the eventual winner on the power play at 5:48 of the third period as the Chiefs edged Tri-City.

    Liam Stewart and Riley Whittingham also scored for Spokane (2-0-0) while Garret Hughson made 20 saves for the win.

    Jackson Playfair and Parker Bowles scored for the Americans (2-2-0) as Eric Comrie turned away 38-of-41 shots in defeat.
