VICTORIA — Sophie Jones scored in the last minute of play as the UBC Thunderbirds tied the Toronto Varsity Blues 2-2 on Saturday in preliminary round action at the CIS women's field hockey championship.

UBC and the host Victoria Vikes advanced to Sunday's championship game on goal differential (Victoria) and goals (UBC) after all four teams finished the preliminary round with identical 1-1-1 records.

Hannah Haughn had the other goal for the Thunderbirds in the first half.

Alison Lee, on a penalty corner, and Emma Stairs, in free play, found the back of the net for Toronto.

Earlier, Stefanie Langkammer scored the lone goal for the Vikes as they drew 1-1 with the Guelph Gryphons.

Moon Weijens opened the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner for Guelph.

UBC will be trying to add to its current streak of four straight national titles. The last time the two B.C. rivals met for the McCrae Cup was two years ago when the Thunderbirds won 4-1.

UBC is 7-3 all-time against the Vikes in the national final and beat Victoria in preliminary round action.
