Premier League clubs target Australian star Cahill

Darpan News Desk IANS, 21 Jul, 2014 07:01 AM
Australian midfielder Tim Cahill is in line for a surprise move back to the English Premier League only two years after leaving Everton.

The Press Association Sport (PSA) Monday claimed there has been significant interest from both Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland, as well as a number of other top-flight clubs in the Premier League and also across Europe, reports Xinhua.

Cahill had an excellent FIFA World Cup with the Socceroos, becoming the first Australian to score in three successive tournaments, and netting one of the goals of the tournament with a brilliant left-foot volley against the Netherlands.

The 34-year-old, who scored 56 goals in 226 appearances for Everton, left England in 2012 for Major League Soccer (MLS) side New York Red Bulls, for whom he was named Most Valuable Player after scoring 11 times last year.

Australia's all-time leading goalscorer (34 times in 71 internationals) has settled well in the United States but it is believed he would consider a return to Europe if the right offer came along.
