Mary Kom, 18 others selected for CWG, Asiad probables

    Olympic bronze medallist M.C. Mary Kom and 18 others were selected here Thursday to form the women's boxing core group probable list for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games (July 23-Aug 3) and the Incheon Asian Games (Sep 19-Oct 4).
     
    The selection trials were held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium May 6-8 under the supervision of the ad-hoc committee set up by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). 
     
    The five member selection committee constituted former boxers namely Mehtab Singh, Deverajan, Ali Qamar, Jitender Kumar and Rajender Prasad.
     
    The committee also requested the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to continue the camp till the Asiad with all 10 weight categories so that the probables can get a variety of sparring partners.
     
    In the meantime, the men's boxing team is going to participate in the Chemistry Cup to prepare for the two upcoming events. The selection trials for the men's core group probable list will start Friday at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
     
    The list of 19 probables:
     
    51 kg: M.C. Mary Kom, Pinking Rani, Rebeeca, Sonia Lather, Mamta, Sarjubala, Vanlalduati
     
    60 kg: L. Sarita Devi, Preeti Beniwal, Pavitra, Pwilao Basumatary, Minu Basumatary, K. Mandakini, H. Chaoba Devi
     
    75 kg: Pooja Rani, Neetu Chahal, Alari Boro, Seema Poonia, Monica Saun
