Jeff Tedford, George Cortez Reunited On B.C. Lions Coaching Staff

The Canadian Press, 22 Jan, 2015 01:37 PM
VANCOUVER — Jeff Tedford and George Cortez are together again.

The new B.C. Lions head coach completed his coaching staff Thursday, adding Cortez as the offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach. Tedford and Cortez worked together at the University of California-Berkley from 2002-05.

Cortez served as the Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive co-ordinator in 2013-14, helping the Riders capture the '13 Grey Cup. Doug Malone, who worked under Cortez when he was the head coach in Hamilton (2011) as well as in Regina, will coach the Lions' offensive line.

Robin Ross, who worked with Tedford at both Fresno State and Oregon, will serve as the Lions' defensive coach. B.C. is also adding Quinn Tedford (quality control, offence) and former CFL player Willie Fields (quality control, defence, assistant defensive backs coach).

Tedford also elected to retain Mark Washington (defensive co-ordinator), Khari Jones (receivers coach), Johnny Holland (linebackers coach) and Chuck McMann (special-teams co-ordinator, running backs coach). Jones served as B.C.'s offensive co-ordinator last season.
