The Vancouver Canucks placed all-star goalie Thatcher Demko and bruising winger Dakota Joshua on the season-opening injured non-roster list Monday. 

Demko announced ahead of training camp that he is working his way back from a muscle injury in his knee. Joshua had off-season surgery for testicular cancer. 

No dates have been set for either player's return. 

The Canucks' opening-day roster included 13 forwards, eight defencemen and two goalies. 

Vancouver also assigned forward Arshdeep Bains, defenceman Erik Brannstrom and goalie Jiri Patera to the Abbotsford Canucks of the American Hockey League.

The Canucks open the season Wednesday when they host the Calgary Flames.
