Ex-NHL Agent Stacey McAlpine Charged After Allegedly Defrauding Chris Phillips, Dany Heatley

18 Oct, 2017 11:46 AM
Winnipeg police have charged a former NHL agent with fraud alleging he bilked two high-profile players out of $12 million.

Stacey McAlpine, who is 54, is charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of crime.

Const. Tammy Skrabek says McAlpine was an agent and business advisor for former Ottawa Senators Chris Phillips and Dany Heatley.

She says the players gave money to McAlpine to invest on their behalf.

Skrabek says the money was allegedly used for personal business while the players were provided with false bank statements.

She says the alleged fraud occurred between January 2004 and June 2011, but Winnipeg police weren't called to investigate until 2013.
