Canadian Teen Golf Star Brooke Henderson Granted LPGA Membership

The Canadian Press, 18 Aug, 2015 01:07 PM
  • Canadian Teen Golf Star Brooke Henderson Granted LPGA Membership
COQUITLAM, B.C. — Rising golf star Brooke Henderson has been granted LPGA Tour membership.

Tour commissioner Michael Whan said in a release Tuesday that Henderson will be granted Tour membership immediately.

The 17-year-old from Smiths Falls, Ont., had earned her 2016 card after posting her first LPGA victory last week at the Cambia Portland Classic.

However, she was faced with the prospect of having to qualify for the remainder of the tournaments in the 2015 season.

LPGA policy states that any woman 18 years of age or over is eligible to apply for Tour membership, but golfers between the ages of 15 and 18 may be granted special permission to apply for membership by petitioning directly to the Tour commissioner.

Henderson petitioned the LPGA to allow her to attend qualifying school last year, but was turned down.
