BC Lions Extend Promising Canadian Lineman Menard Through 2017 Season

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Dec, 2015 12:29 PM
VANCOUVER — The B.C. Lions have signed Canadian defensive lineman David Menard to an extension through the 2017 season.

Menard, the Lions' fourth-round selection in the 2014 CFL draft, has appeared in all 36 regular-season games over the past two years.

The former University of Montreal standout has 25 defensive tackles and eight sacks as back-up along the defensive line.

Menard was set to enter the option year of his previous contract.

"David has been a very productive player for us and we expect him to continue to develop into an effective defensive lineman," said general manager and head coach Wally Buono in a statement. "Talented Canadian depth is critical to our success and having a player like David here for the next two years is a big signing for us."

The Menard signing caps off a busy past two weeks for the Lions, who also signed Canadians Kirby Fabien and Eric Fraser to new contracts as well as international receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux.
