Another Big Crowd Expected For Canada's Quarter-final At Women's World Cup

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Jun, 2015 12:00 PM
VANCOUVER — Organizers are expecting another big crowd for Canada's quarter-final match with England at the Women's World Cup on Saturday.

More than 50,000 tickets were sold as of Tuesday for the game at B.C. Place Stadium.

That will push attendance for Canada's games to more than 235,000. Canada's four previous contests at the tournament drew 187,77 in total attendance.

Sunday's round-of-16 match against the Swiss at B.C. Place attracted a crowd of 53,855 — a record for a Canadian national team home game. That broke the record of 53,058 set June 6 by Canada in Edmonton in the tournament opener against China at Commonwealth Stadium.

The Canadian women drew 35,544 for their second group game in Edmonton against New Zealand on June 11 and 45,420 in Montreal against the Netherlands on June 15.
