Youth Charged With Assault After Stabbing At Vancouver Island High School

    LADYSMITH, B.C. — RCMP in the Vancouver Island community of Ladysmith say a youth has been charged with assault with a weapon after a stabbing at the local high school.
     
    Officials at Ladysmith High School called police after a student was taken to hospital with a stab wound on Dec. 19.
     
    The student told the RCMP he was walking down a crowded hallway during a break between classes when he felt a sharp pinch in his back, but when he turned, he saw no one he recognized.
     
    The student said his back started to hurt and the wound was discovered when a teacher looked at his back.
     
    Mounties interviewed a suspect, and the youth who has been released is expected to return to court next month.
     
    The two teens knew each other and police say the motives behind the stabbing are highly unusual though no one else at the school is at risk.
