Young Moose Swims In St. John's Harbour Before A Large Crowd Of Onlookers

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 06 Jul, 2016 11:20 AM
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A young moose entertained dozens of people who lined the St. John's harbour to watch it swim along the shoreline.

Word of the moose swimming in the harbour spread quickly over social media shortly after 7:00 p.m., causing dozens of curious onlookers to flock to the area to catch a glimpse of it.

The moose could be seen swimming near a Port Authority building, but the elusive animal evaded conservation officers and two fast rescue craft, going from the water to land and back to the water again.

Wildlife officials got a tranquilizer dart into the animal after it made its way into an area of heavy brush.

After another dip in the chilly waters of the harbour, the moose cornered itself and was hit with another dart.

Officials say the young moose was on the run for about three hours before they were able to bring it under control.
