World Record Attempt At Screenings For Sexually Transmitted Infections

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Nov, 2016 11:47 AM
SASKATOON — Organizers at the University of Saskatchewan are looking to break an unofficial world record for the number of people screened for sexually transmitted infections.

Some 812 people were tested for STIs last February at Western University in London, Ont.

A student and member of a peer health outreach program at the Saskatoon university says breaking the record on Wednesday isn't really the point.

Lara Witt says it's all about raising awareness and encouraging testing.

Witt believes people don't get checked out because they are afraid of the results and the stigma attached to having a sexually transmitted infection.

Rita Honoski, health education co-ordinator with Student Health Services, says getting tested is part of looking after one's health and is something that everyone should do.
