Woman Injured In Violent Carjacking In Richmond

Darpan News Desk, 23 Jan, 2019 03:03 AM

Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on January 21, 2019, Richmond RCMP responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Walton Road for a report of a violent robbery of a vehicle.

A woman in her mid 40s was preparing to start the engine of a dark coloured 2007 Toyota SUV when she was approached by a suspect clad in dark clothing. The suspect allegedly produced a weapon and used it to smash a window. The suspect then fled in the vehicle leaving the woman behind.

The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and was visibly shaken from the incident. She was transported to hospital.

Even after extensive patrols, Richmond RCMP were unable to locate the vehicle. Neighbouring police agencies were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle and officers warned to exercise caution as the suspect may be armed and dangerous.

The vehicle was located prior to 9:00 a.m. in Vancouver near Boundary Road and East Hastings Street by the Vancouver Police Department.

Two individuals were arrested in connection with that vehicle – a 28-year-old male from Delta and a 21- year female from Pitt Meadows. Both have been turned over to Richmond RCMP. The Richmond RCMP General Investigative Section has taken conduct of the investigation.

Anyone with information on this incident, is asked to contact Constable K. Chan of the Richmond RCMP General Investigation Section 604-278-1212. Please quote file# 2019-2465.
