Winnipeg Woman Accused Of Concealing Infant Remains Has Fraud Charge Dropped

The Canadian Press, 06 Sep, 2016 01:31 PM
WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg woman accused of hiding the remains of six infants in a storage locker has had an unrelated charge against her stayed.

Andrea Giesbrecht's lawyer, Matthew Gould, says the Crown has decided not to proceed with a charge of fraud over $5,000 that alleged she defrauded a neighbour.

Giesbrecht pleaded guilty in February to fraud for receiving social assistance payments despite being married and receiving rent from a property she owned.

Court was told Giesbrecht had a gambling addiction and she was sentenced to time served.

Giesbrecht is currently on trial on six charges of concealing infant remains in a storage locker that police discovered in 2014.

Closing arguments in that case are scheduled for October.
