Winnipeg police have charged three people after an assault was broadcast live on social media.
Police say a man made arrangements over a dating website to meet a woman at a home in the city Saturday.
They say when the man showed up, he was attacked, stabbed repeatedly and robbed of his wallet and car keys.
Const. Tammy Skrabek says the attack was live-streamed on a very popular social media site, and someone who saw it called police.
She says police arrived while three suspects were still at the scene, the victim was taken to hospital and is now in stable condition.
A man, a woman and a teenage girl face charges including aggravated assault, robbery and extortion.
"What some of the perpetrators in these cases are forgetting is that ... social media can be accessed by millions of other users," Skrabek said Tuesday.
"I suppose what we're going to have to hope for in the future is that when these kind of things happen, is that people don't assume that it's an old video or a made-up video — that these are live videos and to contact the police when they do see something as alarming as this was."
The accused are a 18-year-old male, a 17-year-old girl and a 44-year-old woman.
