Winnipeg Man Accused Of Sending Mail Bombs Wants Out-of-province Judge On Case

The Canadian Press, 22 Feb, 2016 12:23 PM
WINNIPEG — The lawyer of a man accused of sending mail bombs to a workplace and Winnipeg law offices wants an out-of-province judge to handle his trial on attempted murder charges.

Martin Glazer says he made the request for Guido Amsel's case because he thinks a local judge could biased.

The Crown disagreed, and a ruling will be made Thursday.

Three bombs were sent last summer to Amsel's ex-wife’s workplace and the lawyers who had represented Amsel and his wife in their divorce.

Two were safely disposed of but one exploded, severely injuring lawyer Maria Mitousis.

She lost her right hand and suffered injuries to her face and other parts of her body.
