WINNIPEG — A community activist in Winnipeg is being recognized by Time magazine in an article that identifies "Next Generation Leaders" from around the world.
Michael Redhead Champagne, the 28-year-old founder of Aboriginal Youth Opportunities, is featured in an online video and in Time's international print edition.
According to its website, the volunteer organization uses relationships with organizations, media partners and businesses "in order to empower each other."
Champagne says the recognition by the magazine was "very encouraging."
He says the indigenous community has been working hard and the world is starting to take notice of the positive things they are undertaking.
Others recognized in the article include a French medical researcher, a Japanese ballerina and a Mexican activist for prison reform.
