Wind warnings and power outages expected for coastal BC

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Apr, 2023 01:58 PM
  • Wind warnings and power outages expected for coastal BC

People living along the central coast, most of coastal Vancouver Island, the southern Gulf Islands and Sunshine Coast should expect strong winds and potential power outages today.

Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for those regions, advising that gusts of up to 110 kilometres per hour are possible over the central coast before weakening this afternoon.

Gusts in other regions aren't expected to climb above 90 to 100 kilometres per hour but the weather office says the storm — especially over Victoria, the Gulf Islands and Sunshine Coast — won't ease until tonight.

The system is expected to sweep eastward overnight, lowering the freezing level and bringing another dump of snow to mountain passes, including the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt.

You can’t be from Surrey and not appreciate what the South Asian community brings to our city. The fabric of our city is stronger, more entertaining, more colourful, better tasting, and more entrepreneurial because of our South Asian residents. Together, we’re writing the Surrey story, and the contributions of our South Asian community are definitely there for all to see.
