  • Wind, snowfall warnings issued for parts of B.C

Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for parts of Vancouver Island and the British Columbia coast, while snowfall warnings are in place in the eastern Interior.

The department forecasts strong winds for most of Vancouver Island, the southern Gulf Islands, Haida Gwaii, Sunshine Coast, Central Coast and North Coast.

It says a strong Pacific front will approach Haida Gwaii overnight Monday and bring winds with gusts of 90 to 110 kilometres per hour to the North Coast, Central Coast and north Vancouver Island by Tuesday.

Winds of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour are expected for east and west Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, starting late Tuesday morning and persisting into the evening.

The forecaster warns high winds may cause tree branches to break or toss loose objects into the air, leading to injuries or damage.

Meanwhile, a frontal system moving across the B.C. Interior is expected to bring heavy snow to the North Columbia and Kinbasket regions on Monday, with total accumulations of up to 20 centimetres before tapering to flurries overnight.
