WestJet Passenger Wants Airline To Change Policy After Loss Of Tiny Gecko

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 27 Jul, 2016 01:31 PM
VANCOUVER — The owner of an 11-centimetre lizard wants WestJet to change its policies after her pet went missing while being shipped from Toronto to Vancouver.

Meryl Bishop says on Facebook she was required to send the gargoyle gecko to the cargo hold of a WestJet flight during her trip on Sunday.

Bishop could not be reached for comment, but she says on the social media site that the gecko, named Nom, was in a small box with a wet paper towel to keep it cool, but due to several delays it was almost eight hours before she learned the pet was missing.

In a statement, WestJet says it is doing everything it can to find and return Nom, including issuing a countrywide alert to its network of cargo facilities and warehouses.

Bishop says she believes the incident could have been avoided if WestJet had been more flexible and allowed Nom to travel in the cabin.

"Something needs to change so no one else has to go through the heartbreak I've been going through," she wrote.
