We're not the company that 'only hires white men', says firm receiving hate mail

Darpan News Desk Canadian Press, 10 Sep, 2014 11:23 AM

It's a pretty bad case of mistaken identity.

An Ottawa-area business says it's getting abusive emails from people who think it's the same company that Ontario's Human Rights Tribunal ruled discriminated against a foreign-born job applicant by telling him it "only hires white men.''

The tribunal ruled last week that Ottawa Valley Cleaning and Restoration ridiculed the applicant because of his race, colour and place of origin and ordered it to pay him $8,000 plus interest.

Ottawa Valley Cleaning and Restoration did not file a response with the tribunal and did not participate in the matter.

Now the owner of another cleaning company with a similar name says he's receiving emails calling him "a racist loser" and telling him to go hang himself.

George Monsour of Ottawa Valley Carpet Cleaning says his company isn't connected in any way to Ottawa Valley Cleaning and Restoration, but he's concerned that the confusion will affect his business.
