We Are Rejecting The Politics Of Austerity: Alberta Premier To NDP Convention

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 Jun, 2016 01:46 PM
CALGARY — Alberta's premier gave a barnburner of a speech to delegates at the NDP convention in Calgary saying her government will continue to reject the "politics of austerity."

It's the first time the provincial NDP has met since Premier Rachel Notley rolled to victory in Alberta just over a year ago.

Notley outlined her government's achievements over the past year in a 40 minute speech and promised not to abandon Albertans in need.

She said despite low oil prices and declining revenues the general public won't be any better off by cutting government spending.

Notley also reiterated her plans to raise Alberta's minimum wage to $15 an hour before the next election.
