A man wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest was taken into police custody and later found in possession of drugs and weapons Tuesday afternoon.
On June 14, 2016 at 2:20 pm an officer on patrol with the Kelowna RCMP Downtown Enforcement Unit (DEU) spotted a suspect wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The officer arrested the man, who was found in possession of various illegal drugs, as well as a concealed butterfly knife and can of bear spray.
A total of 1.16 grams of suspected heroin, 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 1.37 grams of crack cocaine were seized from the suspect.
The RCMP Downtown Enforcement Unit (DEU) is dedicated to Kelowna’s downtown core, says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey. DEU proactively works closely with various partner agencies to reduce street crime and make the downtown a safer place for everyone to enjoy. Officers of the DEU have a relationship with their clients and regularly breach those clients or arrest them on outstanding arrest warrants, adds O’Donaghey.
The 25-year-old Kelowna man, of no fixed address, was held in police custody to appear in Court on Wednesday. He faces potential charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited weapon.
