VPD searches for witness to frightening Yaletown collision

Darpan News Desk Vancouver Police, 15 Sep, 2021 11:58 AM
  • VPD searches for witness to frightening Yaletown collision

Vancouver Police are looking for a witness who narrowly avoided injury when an out-of-control driver careened through the streets of Yaletown last week.

“A number of people saw a woman pushing a baby stroller on Richards Street when this terrifying incident occurred the morning of September 8,” says Sergeant Steve Addison. “We believe this person had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, and we’d like to speak with her to find out more.”

Investigators believe the collision was caused by an impaired driver who went the wrong way down Richards Street, before striking a tree and crashing through a construction fence near Richards and Pacific around 11 a.m.

Vancouver Police arrested the driver, a 27-year-old man from Richmond, at the scene. Police are still collecting evidence, and believe the woman with the stroller has valuable information that could help with the investigation.

“This was a very chaotic situation, and we think this person likely walked away before speaking with police,” adds Sergeant Addison. “We’d like this witness, or anyone else we haven’t yet spoken with, to get in touch with our investigators.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Vancouver Police at 604-717-3012.
