Volley Of Gunshots Fired Between Black Cars Near Playground In Surrey Where Children Were Playing

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 25 May, 2015 09:57 AM
SURREY, B.C. — Surrey RCMP are investigating whether the latest round of gunfire is linked to the spate of shootings believed spurred by an ongoing gang dispute.

Police say they found evidence of shots fired in the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey, B.C., on Sunday night.

Officers responded after witnesses reported gunfire exchanged between two black cars driving down the street.

Bystanders say children were playing outdoors at the time of the 8 p.m. incident on 13400 block of 70B Avenue, which was also close to a popular park and not far from an elementary school.

Sgt. David MacDonald says no injuries have been reported.

Residents of Surrey and Delta are alarmed over more than 30 shootings believed related to a clash between two drug gangs, while the violence has prompted the federal government to promise 100 new Mounties for the area. (CKNW, The Canadian Press)
