Vogue names Toronto's West Queen West 2nd coolest neighbourhood in the world

Darpan News Desk Canadian Press, 09 Sep, 2014 12:21 PM
  • Vogue names Toronto's West Queen West 2nd coolest neighbourhood in the world

In its September issue, Vogue lists what it says are the globe’s top 15 hippest neighbourhoods, from Mexico City to Tokyo.

It says the Queen Street West neighbourhood "is a verifiable artery of indie patisseries, homegrown labels and hidden-from-view galleries" and calls these the “hallmarks of hipness."

Vogue points out the area is home to the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, The Drake and Gladstone hotels and other hot spots.

Also noted is Graffiti Alley, "a block where street art is both 100 per cent legal and lauded."

The magazine says Toronto is currently enjoying newfound prominence amongst "globe-trotting tastemakers."

Tokyo’s Shimokitazawa neighbourhood took the No. 1 spot on the list.

Other neighbourhoods on the list include Sodermalm in Stockholm, Tiong Bahru in Singapore, Centro in Sao Paulo, Canal Saint-Martin in Paris, Bushwick in New York and Hackney in London.
