Vigil To Pay Tribute To Slain Saskatchewan Mother And Three Children

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 29 Apr, 2015 11:47 AM
TISDALE, Sask. — A rural Saskatchewan community will host a candlelight vigil tonight to honour a mother and her three children who were killed in a murder-suicide last week.

The bodies of 27-year-old Latasha Gosling and her children — Jenika, Landen and Janayah — were found in their mobile home in Tisdale, northeast of Saskatoon.

RCMP have said their killer took a six-month-old baby from the trailer and drove to a home in Prince Albert, where he killed himself but spared the baby.

The child is now in the care of family members.

Gosling's cousin, Tim Funk, says he hopes to see a large turnout at the vigil and wants to meet some of the people who have reached out to his family.

He adds that he has received thousands of Facebook messages from people offering their condolences and prayers.

"I want to see lots of candles out there," he says.

Funk launched a fundraising campaign on the website gofundme.com to collect money for funerals and build a trust fund for the infant.

It had raised almost $61,000 by Wednesday morning.

Louise Schweitzer, executive director of North East Outreach and Support Services, says the group is organizing the vigil so that the community can collectively grieve.

"This is very traumatic," she says. "We want to join together and start in that process ... healing and moving forward.

"We have a community that's in shock and is hurting."
