Victoria Police Constable Facing 13 Fraud-Related Charges For Off-Duty Actions

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 23 Apr, 2015 11:59 AM
VICTORIA — A Victoria police officer has been charged with forgery and fraud after a criminal investigation into his off-duty activities.

The Victoria Police Department says the Crown has approved 13 charges against Const. Leroy Anderson.

He faces six counts each of forgery and possession of a forged document, and one count of fraud, although no details of the accusations have been released.

The department has issued a statement that says Anderson was suspended without pay in September 2014 after it received information about potential fraudulent off-duty activity.

A Police Act investigation was initiated and continued until Nov. 27, when Victoria Chief Constable Frank Elsner requested a criminal investigation from the RCMP.

Anderson's employment status is now under review by the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board.

Elsner says in a statement that the case is now before the courts and the department is limited in what it can reveal.

"These are trying times for everyone involved," he says.
