Victoria Basketball Team Suspended For The Season After Bullying Incident

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Feb, 2016 11:01 AM
OAK BAY, B.C. — Bullying has ended the season for a high school boys' basketball team on Vancouver Island.

Superintendent Piet Langstraat of the Greater Victoria School District says an indecent photo shows one member of the Oak Bay Secondary junior boys' basketball team posing with another player.

The picture was taken during a road trip in mid-January.

Langstraat says the photo was posted online, resulting in significant bullying of one of the boys in the picture.

Victoria Police were contacted and have opened a file, but Langstraat says the school principal suspended the entire team for the season.

According to Langstraat, the suspension came after the principal determined, at the very least, most team members knew about or took part in the bullying.
