Victim Of Targeted Abbotsford Shooting 19-Yr-Old GAGANDEEP SINGH DHALIWAL Was Known To Police: IHIT

, 06 Aug, 2018 12:25 PM

On Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 11:35 pm, the Abbotsford Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 2000 block of Wilerose Street.

APD Patrol Division officers arrived on scene and located two injured males who were transported to hospital. One victim 19 year old Gagandeep Singh Dhaliwal succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, the other is continuing to receive treatment

In a statement released Sunday, IHIT said the second victim, who is "roughly the same age" as Dhaliwal, is expected to survive. The injured man has not been identified.

Dhaliwal was known to local police, but did not have a criminal record, Jang said. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but have not yet determined a motive.

"Right now, it's too early to tell if it's gang-related or drug-related or a personal conflict with somebody. We believe an unknown person approached the residence and shots were fired," Cpl. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said.

Investigators said they are working to determine the motive behind the Dhaliwal’s murder. Anyone with information about his death is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551- IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
