Victim Laughed At Shooter Before Being Shot Inside Busy Toronto Restaurant

The Canadian Press, 18 Sep, 2017 01:08 PM
TORONTO — A Toronto restaurant owner says a man who was fatally shot at his establishment over the weekend laughed at his attacker immediately before bullets were fired.

Michael Dabic says Simon Giannini, a 54-year-old real estate broker, appeared to think a joke was being played when he was approached by a man wearing a hoodie who opened fire inside the downtown Toronto restaurant around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Police have described the shooting at Michael's on Simcoe as targeted.

Dabic says the entire incident lasted only 20 seconds and his daughter was among the witnesses in the restaurant where 140 patrons were dining at the time.

He says the restaurant has clear surveillance video of the incident and a worker recorded the license plate of the vehicle the alleged shooter got into before fleeing.

Dabic says the restaurant will reopen sometime this week.
