VIA Train slams into car killing two including a one-year-old

    A man along with a one-year-old boy was killed Monday morning after their car collided with VIA Rail train in St. Liboire, located 90 kilometres east of Montreal.

    The accident that took place at 7:10 a.m. occurred while the VIA Rail passenger train number 20 was en route to Quebec City. It slammed into the car at a level crossing.

    Impact of the collision was such that the SUV was sliced into two.

    "The information we have from our operations control centre is that the barriers were down and the signals were functioning as they always do," Jacques Gagnon, spokesman for VIA Rail told media.

    Shortly after the incident VIA Rail tweeted a statement saying none of the passengers on board were injured.

    Investigators have not yet revealed the identities of the victims.
