Vancouver Senior Has Broken Hip, Three Men Flee After Trying To Steal Her Purse

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 29 May, 2019 08:19 PM

Vancouver police hope someone can identify the men who knocked an 85-year-old woman to the ground, breaking her hip, as they tried to steal her purse.

Const. Steve Addison says the robbery attempt occurred on May 22 around 9:30 a.m. in Vancouver's Chinatown neighbourhood.

Addison says one of the suspects elbowed the woman and knocked her down, while the two others tried to grab her purse.

But he says the senior held on and the suspects fled empty handed.

Investigators believe the man who knocked the woman down is Caucasian, 40-years-old, about five feet 10 inches tall and wearing glasses, a tan hat, and blue shirt, while the second man is Indigenous, in his 50s, with long grey hair.

There is no description for the third man and Addison says officers have been unable to find witnesses or security video.

"Violent crimes are traumatic experiences for everyone, but when one of our community's most vulnerable is targeted, it strikes a new low," he says in a news release.
