Vancouver, BC – Earlier this week the Vancouver School Board passed a motion calling on the BC Government to immediately reverse the announced cuts to BC school districts for graduated adults who plan to upgrade their courses.
The Board expects the BC Government’s decision to cut support for graduated adults to impact thousands of adult learners in Vancouver. The courses provide a popular educational path for students looking to upgrade their courses so they can meet the pre-requisite requirements necessary to access post-secondary programming.
Many students who utilize the district’s five adult education centres to upgrade their skills face substantial financial barriers and are expected to struggle paying full tuition fees, which can cost hundreds of dollars.
District staff say they are concerned about the impact that these funding cuts could have on the future career viability of many adult education students.
