  • Vancouver Police seeks witnesses after man’s throat slashed by stranger

Vancouver – Vancouver Police are investigating after a man’s throat was slashed by a stranger during an unprovoked attack in Mount Pleasant Sunday afternoon.

“This attack appears to have been random, and it caused serious injuries to the victim,” says Sergeant Steve Addison, VPD. “We believe there were a number of people in the area when it happened, and we’re asking anyone with information to contact VPD investigators.”

The victim, a 46-year-old man from Vancouver, was near Quebec Street and East 10th Avenue around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon when someone approached from behind and cut his throat, then walked away.

Several bystanders came to the victim’s aid, called 9-1-1, and stayed with the victim until first responders arrived. VPD officers arrested the suspect about a block south of Kingsgate Mall.

“We’re grateful to everyone who came to the aid of the victim and called 9-1-1 immediately. They provided comfort to the injured victim and allowed VPD officers to arrest the suspect while he was still in the area,” adds Sergeant Addison.

The victim suffered significant cuts to his neck and throat. He was taken to hospital, received stitches, and was released. The injuries are no longer life-threatening.

Jesse Attig, a 30-year-old from Vancouver, has been charged with attempted murder and remains in custody.

Anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to police is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
