Vancouver Police Pull 101 Impaired Drivers Off The Roads In Three Weeks

Darpan News Desk, 22 Dec, 2019 02:19 AM

The Vancouver Police Department has pulled 101 impaired drivers off the road since the beginning of the annual winter CounterAttack campaign at the end of November.

“The holiday season is full of celebrations and we want people to enjoy themselves,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “Plan ahead if you are drinking or using drugs to ensure you have a safe way of getting home.”

VPD began CounterAttack roadblocks on November 29. Of the 101 impaired driving investigations, the majority had their vehicles impounded for up to 30 days because of their impairment.

“If you choose to drink and drive, you could lose your license and your car, or worse, kill yourself or someone else,” says Constable Visintin.

CounterAttack road blocks are a partnership between VPD and the Insurance Corporation of B.C., with a mandate to promote safe driving and take impaired motorists off the road. Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities in B.C., and it is entirely preventable.

Anyone who suspects an impaired driver should call 9-1-1 immediately.
