  • Vancouver Police investigate after senior struck and killed near Olympic Village

Vancouver Police are seeking witnesses to a weeks-old collision that recently claimed the life of a senior near the Olympic Village.

“Anyone who saw this collision likely thought it was very minor, and may not have stayed behind to speak to police,” says Sergeant Steve Addison, VPD. “Sadly, the 73-year-old victim suffered a head injury and died in hospital last weekend after more than three weeks of medical care.”

The collision occurred around 7 p.m. on March 4, near Columbia Street and West 2nd Avenue. A white Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck struck the victim, who was riding in a mobility scooter. The senior was knocked to the ground and hit her head.

“The driver of the truck remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation,” adds Sergeant Addison. “We’re now asking anyone else who saw what happened, or who has dash cam video, to come forward and speak with investigators.”

The incident was Vancouver’s fourth traffic fatality of 2021.
