Vancouver Police Arrest Prince George Man For Historical Sex Assaults

The Canadian Press, 22 Nov, 2018 12:48 PM
Vancouver police have arrested a Prince George man for alleged historical sexual offences involving a young girl and they believe there are more victims and witnesses.

Sgt. Jason Robillard said the victim is now an adult who filed a report with Vancouver police. Officers arrested Kevin Roberts, 46, on Monday for crimes allegedly committed in Vancouver and Prince George, he said.

Throughout the course of the investigation, police uncovered evidence to suggest there are more victims, said Robillard.

"These types of crimes are extremely traumatic and survivors live with lifelong impacts," he told a news conference Wednesday.

"We do believe there are more survivors out there and we are asking them to come forward, as hard as that may be. Come forward with the information that you have so we can help."

Crown counsel approved charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual assault with a weapon, invitation to sexual touching, assault and assault causing bodily harm.

There is a publication ban on the victim's identity and Robillard would not say exactly when the crimes are alleged to have occurred due to concerns about identifying the woman.

"This goes back several years. It's over the course of a time frame. It's several offences. It's one victim, and we believe there are more," he said.

Police allege additional offences may have taken place over the course of the past 20 years, he said.

Victims would have been between the ages of four and 18 at the time of the alleged crimes, Robillard said.

"They could be adults today. They could be any age right now at this point," he said.

He said Roberts leads a transient lifestyle and works as a truck driver on routes throughout British Columbia and Alberta. He's also worked as a school bus driver in the Prince George area and as a mover.

Roberts was arrested in Chilliwack while on his truck route, he added.

"Our investigators, it's still ongoing. They're still trying to determine exactly the background of where he lived, how long he lived there."
