  • Vancouver Police appeals for information in Downtown EastSide sexual assault

A Vancouver Police investigation has led to a sexual assault charge against a man who allegedly assaulted a woman known to him from the Downtown Eastside.

Police are asking witnesses or people with information about the assault to contact investigators. “This alleged crime was committed against a vulnerable woman living on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD.

“Investigators believe there may be other people who know the suspect and may have information that could be useful to the investigation.”

Victor Austin, a 49-year-old man from Vancouver, was charged on January 19 with one count of sexual assault and released with court-ordered conditions.

They include: not to be alone in any residence or dwelling with any female who is not a member of his immediate family, and not to provide alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicating substance to any female.

Anyone with information is asked to call VPD investigators at 604-717-0601.
