Vancouver Girl, 13, Grabbed, Pulled Into Car, Escapes; Police Nab Male Suspect Who Exposed Himself

Darpan News Desk, 05 May, 2015 07:35 PM
Vancouver police say a 13-year-old girl who was grabbed by a man and forced into a car was able to flee when the suspect later stopped the vehicle and exposed himself.

Sgt. Randy Fincham says in a release that police arrested a 20-year-old man after two separate incidents on the city's west side on Tuesday.

Fincham says the first incident happened around 8:30 a.m. near Mackenzie Street and West 45th Avenue, when a man drove up to the 13-year-old, asked for directions, then grabbed her and pulled her inside the car.

He says when the man stopped the vehicle a short time later and exposed himself, the girl was able to open the door and run away.

Fincham says that about 30 minutes later a 16-year-old girl ran away at Dunbar Street and West 37th Avenue when a man drove up,  asked for directions and exposed himself.

Fincham says the girls were not physically harmed but are traumatized, and an unidentified man is in custody.

"Both of these girls showed a lot of courage by running to a safe place and calling for help," said Fincham.

"By reporting the incident immediately, police were able to identify the suspect and take a dangerous person off the street."
